Brew the chai strong and let it cool; the tea is the flavor base here, so a weak cup makes a bland smoothie.
The result drinks like an iced chai latte with 25 grams of protein hiding in it.
This is number 7 of our top 20 high protein, low carb smoothies.
method
Brew the chai with two bags for a strong half cup and let it cool completely, or use cold leftover chai.
Pour the chai and almond milk into the blender, add the protein powder and cinnamon.
Add the ice. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth. Taste and adjust: a few more ice cubes for thicker, a splash more liquid for thinner. Drink cold.
chef's tips
- Brew the tea the night before and keep it in the fridge; warm tea melts the ice and thins the drink.
- A pinch of ground ginger or cardamom pushes the chai character further.
- Use a protein powder with no added sugar. It is the difference between 3 and 15 grams of carbs per scoop.
