A raspberry smoothie in a glass.

Raspberries are the best berry deal in low-carb eating: half a cup is under 4 grams of net carbs, and their tartness cuts straight through the richness of almond butter.

The double almond, milk plus butter, gives this one a marzipan undertone that makes it taste far fancier than four ingredients.

This is number 14 of our top 20 high protein, low carb smoothies.

method

  1. Pour the almond milk into the blender, add the raspberries, almond butter and protein powder.

  2. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth.

  3. Taste and adjust: a few more ice cubes for thicker, a splash more liquid for thinner. Drink cold.

chef's tips

  • Raspberry seeds bother some people; blend an extra 15 seconds and they disappear.
  • A drop of almond extract doubles down on the marzipan note.
  • Liquid first, soft ingredients next, ice last. It blends faster and nothing sticks under the blades.
