Piña Colada Protein Smoothie in a glass

Light coconut milk carries the piña colada flavor, with pineapple kept to a deliberately small amount so the carbs do not climb fast.

Resist the urge to add more pineapple than the recipe calls for. A quarter cup is the line between low-carb and not.

Part of our 50 high-protein, low-carb smoothie recipes list.

method

  1. Pour the coconut milk and water into the blender, add the pineapple and protein powder.

  2. Add the ice. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth.

  3. Taste and adjust: a few more ice cubes for thicker, a splash more liquid for thinner. Drink cold.

chef's tips

  • Keep the pineapple to a quarter cup. Any more and the carb count climbs fast.
  • Use a protein powder with no added sugar. It is the difference between a few grams of carbs per scoop and a lot more.
