The creamsicle trick is using the zest instead of the fruit. All the orange perfume lives in the peel, and the peel has no sugar worth counting.
Greek yogurt plus vanilla handles the cream half. Thirty-six grams of protein in something that tastes like childhood.
This is number 13 of our top 20 high protein, low carb smoothies.
method
Pour the almond milk into the blender, add the yogurt, zest, protein powder and vanilla.
Add the ice. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth.
Taste and adjust: a few more ice cubes for thicker, a splash more liquid for thinner. Drink cold.
chef's tips
- Zest only the orange part of the peel; the white pith underneath is bitter.
- For the full creamsicle effect, serve it over a few extra ice cubes in a tall glass.
- Use a protein powder with no added sugar. It is the difference between 3 and 15 grams of carbs per scoop.
