The leanest smoothie on the list: 150 calories and 3 grams of net carbs, with the warm spice doing all the heavy lifting.
Cinnamon also has a decent track record on blood sugar, which is a nice bonus for a drink that tastes like a cinnamon roll.
This is number 6 of our top 20 high protein, low carb smoothies.
method
Pour the almond milk into the blender, add the protein powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.
Add the ice. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth.
Dust a little extra cinnamon on top. Taste and adjust: a few more ice cubes for thicker, a splash more liquid for thinner. Drink cold.
chef's tips
- Ceylon cinnamon is softer and sweeter than the usual cassia; worth it if you make this often.
- A tablespoon of Greek yogurt makes it taste more like frosting, for 1 extra gram of carbs.
- Use a protein powder with no added sugar. It is the difference between 3 and 15 grams of carbs per scoop.
