Blackberry Lime Protein Smoothie in a glass

Blackberries are more tart than people expect, and fresh lime juice and zest push that tartness further instead of covering it up.

This is the one to make if the rest of the berry smoothies on this list feel too sweet for your taste.

Part of our 50 high-protein, low-carb smoothie recipes list.

method

  1. Pour the almond milk into the blender, add the blackberries, lime juice, zest and protein powder.

  2. Add the ice. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth.

  3. Taste and adjust: a few more ice cubes for thicker, a splash more liquid for thinner. Drink cold.

chef's tips

  • Blackberry seeds don't fully break down. Blend the full 45 seconds, or strain through a fine sieve if it bothers you.
  • Use a protein powder with no added sugar. It is the difference between a few grams of carbs per scoop and a lot more.
