Birthday Cake Protein Smoothie in a glass

Vanilla and a touch of almond extract do the cake-batter work; sugar-free sprinkles, stirred in at the very end, do the rest visually.

Go easy on the almond extract. It is strong, and the whole point of this one is that it is fun, not overpowering.

Part of our 50 high-protein, low-carb smoothie recipes list.

method

  1. Pour the almond milk into the blender, add the protein powder and both extracts.

  2. Add the ice. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth.

  3. Stir in the sprinkles at the end so they stay whole and colorful. Drink cold.

chef's tips

  • A light hand with the almond extract goes a long way. It's strong; start with less.
  • Use a protein powder with no added sugar. It is the difference between a few grams of carbs per scoop and a lot more.
